Announcements

Read updates from your school and your courses, filter them by who sent them, and keep track of what you have not read.

Announcements is one feed of every update addressed to you, from a school-wide notice down to a message meant only for your course. Newest first, with the ones you have not read marked.

Reading the feed

Each entry shows the title, a preview of the message, the author, and a badge saying who it was sent to. Unread entries sit on a blue tint with a blue bar down the left. Entries marked urgent carry an Urgent badge.

The feed is grouped by when things arrived, under Today, Yesterday, This week and Earlier.

Selecting an entry opens the full announcement. Opening one marks it read, which lowers the count on your navigation.

Filtering

Three controls sit above the feed.

ControlWhat it does
Search boxFilters the feed by text
UnreadShows only what you have not read, with the count beside it
UrgentShows only announcements marked urgent

Unread and Urgent are toggles. Selecting the one already active turns it off and returns you to everything.

Next to them is a scope dropdown, which narrows the feed to a level of your enrolment: everything, school-wide only, or a specific program, cohort, class or course. It is built from what you are actually enrolled in, so it only ever offers you real choices.

The scope filter is missing inside a course

Each course has its own Announcements tab, which is already scoped to that course. The dropdown is hidden there because there is nothing left to narrow. Everything else stays: the search box, both toggles, and an Unread count that counts only this course's announcements. See Inside a course.

The unread count

The count next to Announcements in your navigation is the number of announcements you have not opened. It refreshes about once a minute, and shows 99+ above 99. On a phone, where Announcements sits behind More, the More button carries a dot instead.

The five newest announcements also appear on Home under Recent Announcements.

A classmate got one and you did not

Announcements are addressed to a level of enrolment, not to individuals. If a classmate in another class or program received something you did not, it was sent to their scope. Nothing has gone wrong with your account.

Where announcements come from

Your school controls who receives what. An announcement can be addressed to the whole school, or to a program, a cohort, a class or a single course. You see the ones that cover you, and the badge on each entry tells you which level it came from. How staff send them is covered in Announcements for staff.
