Glossary

Definitions of the key EasyClass terms.

A quick reference to the vocabulary used across EasyClass. For how the main terms relate, see Key concepts.

Program

The long-term academic blueprint: a tree of modules holding courses, each with a coefficient and an hour count. See Programs.

Module

A level inside a program's structure, typed as a Year, Semester, Module, Option or Other. Modules nest inside each other and hold the program's courses.

Cohort

A dated group of students who progress through one program together, such as "Fall 2024". See Cohorts.

Class

A running instance of teaching with start and end dates. Either program-based or standalone. See Classes.

Course (template)

A reusable course definition in the Course Catalog.

Course (taught) / class-course

A live instance of a course template running inside a class. This is what students mean by "my courses", and it is why the same subject taught to two classes is two separate courses with their own lectures, materials, grades and forum. See Courses and My Courses.

Lecture

A single scheduled session of a course. See Lectures.

Live session

An online or broadcast event students join in real time. See Live Sessions.

Block

A unit of learning content (text, image, video, quiz and so on) that makes up a lesson. See Content Library.

Gradebook

Where grades are recorded and computed. See Gradebook.

Gradebook template

A reusable gradebook layout of columns and computed columns.

Formula / conditional expression

A rule at the program level that computes results or drives conditional logic.

Transcript

A student's academic record, generated from a template. See Administrative Documents.

Certificate

An award granted on completion, based on a program certificate template.

Enrollment / progression

The record linking a student to a program, class, course and lecture, and tracking their progress.

Announcement

A message broadcast to a scoped audience, at normal or urgent priority. See Announcements.

Thread

A single forum conversation, either a discussion or a question. See Forum.

Invoice

A bill issued to a student, generated from fees. See Invoices.

Fee

The definition of a charge (one-off or periodic) that invoices are created from.

Credit note

Credit issued to a student, available to apply to invoices.

Role

Student, moderator or administrator. See Roles and access.

Permission scope

The level a permission applies at: global, program, cohort, class, course, lecture, exam, event or owner.

Organization

The tenant: your university, school or corporate training team. See Organization.
